MATERIALS
NEEDED:
STYROFOAM*

Flat heart, 9" x 1" OR sheet, 1" x 12" x 12"

Materials:
Acrylic paints: flesh; blue; your choice for hair
Wiggle eyes, 3/4", two
Doll eyelashes, 1/2" - 1", two
Raffia doll hair curls
Pink craft foam: 1-3/8" precut circles, two; 3" x 1"
rectangle, one
1/2"-3/4" white ruffled eyelet lace, 1 yd.
Assorted child's hair bows and barrettes
Fine-line black permanent marking pen
Serrated knife
Candle stub or paraffin
White craft glue
Paintbrush, stiff bristle
Disposable palette
Paper towels
Pencil
Ruler
Scissors
Wood skewer
| INSTRUCTIONS: |
| 1.
If using a 12" x 12" foam sheet, draw heart pattern onto foam.
(Hint: To make a complete heart, trace first half, flip tracing
over carefully aligning it with center line, and trace second
half.) Wax serrated knife with candle stub or paraffin and cut
out shape. |
| 2.
Using pattern as a guide, cut at an angle with serrated knife
to trim 1-1/4" from bottom point of heart. (Hint: By cutting
foam at an angle, doll face will tilt slightly upward when assembled
for better visibility.) |
| 3.
Lightly trace outline of foam disc onto heart with pencil for
doll's face (refer to photo). |
| 4.
Stand heart and glue centered on disc. |
| 5.
Paint face flesh and disc base blue. Using your choice for hair
color, paint remainder of heart, extending curls onto face (refer
to photo). Let dry. |
| 6.
Cut 2"-4" lengths of raffia curls. Attach curls randomly to
painted hair on doll by pressing one end into foam with a wood
skewer. Glue to secure. |
| 7.
Glue eyes, eyelashes, and craft foam circle cheeks to face (refer
to photo). Cut a smiling mouth from pink craft foam to extend
between cheeks. Glue mouth to face. With black marking pen,
draw a small curved nose even with top of cheeks. |
| 8.
Glue eyelet lace around edge of disc base, overlapping ends
at center back. |
| 9.
Clip child's hair bows and barrettes to raffia curls for storage. |
